[Gen.22:24] Note on Wife: Milcah + Milcah (related to the Hebrew word for "queen") was the daughter of Haran and the wife of Nahor in Genesis. After Terah was 70 years old, his sons Abram, Nahor, and Haran were born. Nahor. Nahor fathered Terah at the young age of 29 years (Genesis 11:24), but Terah was 70 years old before his three sons, Abram, Nahor, and Haran, were born (verse 26). Terah, like many of his ancestors, was an adherent of polytheism and idol worshipper. Terah appears in both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament. Genesis 11 relates that Abram and his brother Nahor married Sarai and Milcah, respectively (v. 29). Terah is distinguished in the scriptures as the father of the Patriarch Abraham. Terah’s father was Nahor, son of Serug, offspring of Shem. So Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac. As Lot became attached to his Uncle Abram, perhaps Nahor took in Milcah in a similar fashion. Terah was the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. The family and several of their antecedents were polytheistic and believed in multiple gods. But he is placed first in this list because of his importance (like Ephraim before Manasseh), since Abram was the LORD’s chosen instrument. In his final speech to the Israelite leaders assembled at Shechem, Joshua recounts the history of God's formation of the Israelite nation, beginning with "Terah the father of Abraham and Nachor, [who] lived beyond the Euphrates River and worshiped other gods" (Joshua 24:2). This is the history of Terah’s family. Abram married Sarai , who we are told is barren in verse 30, and we are told later is the half-sister of Abram, from the same father, but of a different mother (Gen. 20:12). It does not name Sarah’s father, even though it relates that Milcah was the daughter of Haran, Terah’s other son, and then names Haran’s other daughter, Iscah. Nahor in the Book of Joshua. Terah was a descendant of Shem and the father of Abram (whose name will later be changed to Abraham in 17:5), Nahor and Haran. Now after these things it was told to Abraham, “Behold, Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor: Uz his firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel the father of Aram, Chesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph, and Bethuel.” (Bethuel fathered Rebekah.) 8.Bethuel, father of Rebekah, the wife of Isaac. The father of Terah, who was the father of Abraham ( Genesis 11:22-25; Luke 3:34). A son of Terah, and elder brother of Abraham ( Genesis 11:26 Genesis 11:27; Joshua 24:2, RSV).He married Milcah, the daughter of his brother Haran, and remained in the land of his nativity on the east of the river Euphrates at Haran ( Genesis 11:27-32). The entire family, including grandchildren, resided in Ur of the Chaldees. Their family had descended from Shem's son Arpachshad. Terah had three sons: Abram, Haran, and Nahor. During that time he had other sons and daughters. Sarah’s ancestry is not clear. These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham's brother. After Nahor was 29 years old, his son Terah was born. Nahor married Milcah, his niece, the daughter of Haran, and Lot's sister. (Genesis 31:53) We include this description as a contrast. Jacob specifically does not swear by either the God of Abraham or the God of Nahor! These eight Milcah bore to Nahor, Abraham’s brother. Haran was the father of Lot. Haran was the father of Lot, Abram’s nephew and traveling companion, but Haran died during Terah’s lifetime (verse 28). snorting. [7] This genealogy makes Nahor the father of Betuel and the grandfather of Rebekah, thus connecting the father in P (Betuel) with the father in J (Nahor) and putting Rebekah squarely into Abraham’s family. After Terah was born, Nahor lived another 119 years. Abram was the youngest son, born sixty years after Haran , the eldest. His father was Nahor, whose own father was Serug. To his concubine, Reumah, Nahor had these sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maacah. 22:23 —Betuel being the father of Rebekah.
